This is the fourth year of Digital West, and just one in a number of initiatives planned as part of the creation and rollout of a digital strategy for Mayo. On 15 December 2020, the final draft of the “Regulation on a Single Market For Digital Services (Digital Services Act)” was introduced. This legislation, once ratified, will support European Digital Transformation ambitions and create a safer, harmonised open digital space across the EU. The movement to digitally transform EU business and society is accelerating. This Digital West event examines some of the key digital transformation themes. This informative event, coupled with GMIT programme digital education provision for individuals, entrepreneurs and SMEs aims to accelerate, upskill and support beneficial technology advancement in the West of Ireland.

Noreen Henry, lecturer in IT, GMIT, and Chair of Digital West 2021, says this event is a really excellent opportunity for individuals, businesses and organisations to find out about digital transformation strategies and emerging technologies and techniques such as AI, analytics, automation and cybersecurity.

“We will hear from a mixture of experienced digital transformers with local to national and global perspectives from marketing to cybersecurity, as well as hearing about the various supports that are available to organisations to enable digital transformation. Brid & Paul from “Terulia, a bookshop like no other”, have availed of the supports provided by LEO to enable the digital transformation of their local business. It is a great opportunity to hear from a diverse panel and have an opportunity to ask those questions that may be holding you back”.

The free online event will be streamed live, and you can register on https://digitalwest.biz/

It will also be streamed live in a number of centres including the GMIT’s iHubs at the Galway and Mayo campuses.
