Student Intern Showcase 2026 highlights the transformative experience of students working with innovative start-ups and entrepreneurs across the ATU Incubation Centres.
This Document showcases the achievements of students who have completed internships through the Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Incubation Centres network, highlighting the significant value these placements bring to both students and emerging businesses.
The ATU Incubation Centres Internship Programme, delivered across Galway, Mayo, Sligo and Donegal, connects talented students with innovative start-ups, scaling companies and entrepreneurial ventures. The programme provides participants with practical industry experience while helping client companies access fresh talent and new perspectives.
The 2026 showcase features students from ATU, the University of Galway, Rice University, the University of Oregon, DkIT and other institutions, working across sectors including MedTech, software development, engineering, quality assurance, product design, marketing and entrepreneurship.
Throughout the programme, students contributed directly to projects within leading innovation-driven companies based in the ATU Incubation Centres, including NUA Surgical, SymPhysis Medical, KinetikIQ, Main Circle Medical, AuriGen Medical, IsoVasc Medical, Endowave and others. Their work ranged from research and development, quality management and product testing to software engineering, digital marketing and business development.
Many students highlighted the opportunity to apply classroom learning in a real-world environment, while gaining confidence, technical expertise and professional skills. Several reported that the experience helped them identify future career paths and provided valuable insight into the fast-paced nature of start-up and innovation-led organisations.
In addition to company-based internships, the showcase also highlights participants in ATU’s Student Inc. entrepreneurship programme. Student founders developed and validated innovative business ideas across sectors ranging from sustainability and accessibility to consumer products and digital services. Through mentoring, workshops and networking opportunities, participants gained first-hand experience of building and developing new ventures.
Turlough Rafferty, ATU iHub Galway, said:
“The Student Intern Showcase demonstrates the exceptional talent emerging from our universities and the value of connecting students with innovative companies at an early stage in their careers. These internships provide meaningful opportunities for students to develop professionally while helping our client companies advance important projects and bring new ideas to market. We are delighted to support the next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs through these programmes.”
The showcase reflects ATU’s ongoing commitment to strengthening links between academia, industry and entrepreneurship, while supporting the development of Ireland’s innovation ecosystem through practical, industry-focused learning experiences.
Students consistently reported that the internships enhanced their confidence, strengthened their technical and professional skills, and provided valuable insight into future career opportunities. Their experiences demonstrate the critical role that industry partnerships play in preparing graduates for the modern workforce while contributing to the growth and success of innovative businesses across the region.
