Embolization is a minimally invasive endovascular procedure that involves the purposeful
blockage of blood flow in a blood vessel. It has a wide and expanding range of clinical
applications, including the treatment of benign or malignant tumours, internal bleeding,
preparing patients for open surgery and the treatment of chronic pain syndromes such as
pelvic congestion syndrome in females and scrotal varicoceles in males. LaNua Medical is
developing solutions to current problems in embolization across this diverse range of clinical
applications.

LaNua Medical’s ECORE device is for vascular embolization . It is delivered over a wire to
improve deployment accuracy. It has a distal-covered membrane to help immediately block
blood flow. Uniquely, the device design incorporates an internal hemostatic valve through
which a vascular catheter can be advanced, allowing liquid or small particle embolics to be
delivered distally, thus reducing the risk of proximal reflux and complications from non-target
embolization. These micro-embolics are often necessary to penetrate distally right down to
the small vessel level where they can cause cell death, desirable in many clinical scenarios
such as some specialized cancer therapies. As such, LaNua Medical’s ECORE device has great
potential as a standalone treatment in some clinical scenarios and as a device that can be
used synergistically to improve safety and efficacy with existing embolic devices in other
clinical situations.
